Dear Editor:

California voters decided Proposition 22 in 2000, declaring that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in the state of California.  Unfortunately citizens in Massachusetts never had that same chance.  Instead, the courts and the legislature hijacked the issue and forced homosexual
marriage on them in 2004.

A Massachusetts legislative proposal debated in a joint session last Thursday would have changed that.  The proposal would have allowed the voters to decide whether or not they want homosexual marriage legalized in their state.

It should be noted that the proposal would not have itself overturned homosexual marriage in the Bay State.  Instead, it simply would have given the people a chance to decide the issue.  But apparently the
Massachusetts legislators are too arrogant to do even that.

The proposal was defeated when it fell five votes shy of receiving the 50 votes necessary to advance.

It is important to watch developments in Massachusetts because it is the only state thus far to conduct the social experiment of legalized homosexual marriage.  California is widely known as the next "big battle" state for marriage.

In response to the Massachusetts vote, California's most aggressive homosexual advocacy organization, Equality California, released the following statement: "We call on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to demonstrate the same kind of leadership in recognizing that the ballot process should never be used to take away or preclude basic rights and freedoms."

In other words, Equality California, in the height of conceit, believes that the People should never have the chance to decide the issue of protecting marriage.
