The slight rumble causing cracks in the Hillary Rodham Clinton political machine started several weeks ago with a miserable appearance at one of the many Democratic Party debates.
Hillary could no longer explain away her constant shifting from one position to another, often within minutes. The liberal media could claim Hillary was being "picked on" if any of the Republican candidate commented, but when fellow Democrat Party candidates made fun of her for standing on all sides of an issue, the loyal media was helpless to come to her aid.
In truth, Hillary’s campaign started to unravel long before that debate. It is obvious that Hillary is no Bill when it comes to thinking fast on her feet. She does not make women swoon and certainly doesn’t have the cool and collected political savvy that got her husband, "Slick Willy, elected for two terms. The talent that Bill Clinton has of convincing people that he is just "one of them" and is telling the truth, even when he is clearly lying, is not a talent that Hillary seems to possess. She is simply not likable enough for people to overlook her constant political mistakes.
Many people may not realize that even Bill Clinton, for all his political talent, did not win 50% of the popular vote in either presidential election. Had it not been for Ross Perot deciding to settle old debts with George H. W. Bush and drawing 17% of the Republican vote, there may never have been a President William Jefferson Clinton or a First Lady named Hillary. The American people were not so in love with Bill as he would like everyone to believe. Even many who supported him breathed a sigh of relief when his presidency ended. It had been eight years of scandal-after-scandal and they were weary of the Clinton duo.
In the last week, there have been several attacks on Barrack Obama by the Hillary camp because he has passed her with lightening speed in several important primary states. While Hillary always pleads innocence and fires the offending staff member, anyone who has followed how the Clintons run a campaign knows full well that Hillary has been informed of the "trial balloons" being put out against Obama. It is certainly possible that these "leaked" stories were her idea. When these balloons sink, the hapless staff member knows his job is at an end. The campaign needs a sacrificial lamb and Hillary must appear to be above it all, oblivious to the mischief her campaign staff is getting into.
Humble apologies follow from Hillary with the claim that she had no knowledge and is just horrified that her staff would say things like: "Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?" or "Obama has admitted he used drugs; did he sell drugs too?"
Then, to Hillary’s probable horror, the wildly popular Oprah Winfrey threw her support behind Obama. Not only did Oprah announce that she was backing Obama, but she actually hit the campaign trail and is stumping for him drawing huge crowds wherever she goes. Hillary’s poll numbers dropped almost instantly. It seems as though she went from the ranks of royalty and the ordained Democratic nominee to scrambling to find dirt on Barack Obama and extracting her foot from her mouth.
The African American vote was always taken for granted by the leftists in America but Hillary didn’t expect to do battle with an upstart African American senator no one had heard of outside of Illinois. How can she play the race card? Painting Republicans as hates of minorities, children, and women is a leftist political staple, but it can’t be used against one of Hillary’s own fellow socialist/liberal party members. Obama’s shrugging off of her attacks makes him appear mature and Hillary shrill and hateful.
Obama’s political maturity is questionable but America is seeing the real Hillary, perhaps for the first time. The voters in Arkansas knew the real Hillary and that is why she sought a state unfamiliar with her tactics that would be dazzled by having a former first lady as a senator.
In a desperate attempt to be accepted as "Black" as husband Bill was by the African American community, Hillary sent Andrew Young out to vouch for her. Whether the appearance was helpful is certainly questionable with her "friend" making comments like, "Bill has been with more Black women then Obama has." Young rambled on about how well Hillary dealt with Bill’s "bimbo eruptions" and somehow this experience made her qualified to be president of the United States. Could this be the 35 years of political experience that Hillary keeps bragging about? It is unlikely that Young will be asked to speak again.
Then there was the "Obama lied about not wanting to be president until recently" farce, complete with kindergarten teacher to state that little Obama had written a paper clearly stating that being president has been his goal all along. Hillary was rapidly becoming a joke.
It is comforting to know that at least Hillary’s mother likes her and went public to tell Americans that her daughter is really a nice person. A campaign is in trouble when Mom is dragged out, dusted off, and told to back her daughter.
But the best, by far, were the comments that Obama’s campaign fundraising was "questionable." This accusation is from the all-time champion of "questionable" campaign money. The Clinton list of ill-gotten campaign funds is long and illustrious and includes drug dealers and the Chinese Red Army and numerous lowlifes in between. Those who have followed the Clinton team’s political careers through the years are still having giggle-fits over that Hillary remark.
In the end, there is no knowing for certain who will win the Democratic Party’s nomination. The Clinton machine is not running on all cylinders but this duo has been through rocky times before. But these are problems they have never faced. With the roles reversed, Bill can only trot out and try to convince people what a great team he and Hillary would make if only they were back in the White House again. The problem is this conjures memories of just that--the Clinton scandal-ridden White House, Monica, lies, perjury, impeachment, and poor, poor Hillary playing the downtrodden and embarrassed wife so well. That is a role she can no longer play and the old tried-and-true Clinton hard-handed slash-and-burn tactics are not working for her.
The Democratic Party is now paying the price for allowing not only the Clintons to rule the party with an iron fist, but for selling themselves to the far, radical left of the party. Hillary expects and demands that she be crowned queen of the party, but the party is in total disarray. The Democratic Party-led Congress is in chaos and at the lowest approval numbers in history. Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid have become caricatures making one stupid statement after another.
One thing is certain: the promised Democratic Party sweep in the next election is far from assured. It may well end up like the long list of broken promises of the Democratic Party. The Clintons are not royalty and when Hillary’s own party members start laughing at her, she should be worried. Very worried indeed.
Camelot was a Kennedy myth and just like that myth, the Clinton Camelot is crumbling--because the foundation is quite rotten.
