When most of us think of solving a problem we employ a simple mental routine, and we do so subconsciously.  First, we define the problem.  Then, we list the alternative solutions.  And finally, we select the best option.

True-blue liberals do not follow this procedure. They have their own method of reacting to issues.  Unfortunately, the results of their approach confuse the rest of us.  If you use the problem-solving approach described in the opening sentences, liberal thoughts and arguments seem disconnected from reality, and quite often the facts.

What’s different about the liberal process?  First, over time they have evolved a set of fundamental “beliefs” about the world we live in. They answer any problem by reacting to the most appropriate “belief.”  Applying logic and reason is not necessary.  Liberals provide answers to all issues with this quick and simple process.  The method does not require the use of the deeper brain cells.

For example, there is one primary liberal “belief” that is the basis for many of their pronouncements.  Liberals believe that society, in general, has over the years blundered down the wrong path, and seriously so.  They believe that most of the actions of our society are damaging “the planet,” and if left uncorrected will lead to terrible consequences for the populace.  In that scenario, American society is doubly, maybe triply, bad.

Liberals believe that there are just too many people populating the earth.  We, especially the Americans, consume too much of the earth’s resources.  There is too much disparity between the “haves” and the “have nots.”  Our prevailing system favors the “haves” in every instance.  And, on and on and on it goes.  There are no good words for our dear country, only abject criticism and predictions of well-deserved loss of world power.  The bottom line is that liberals believe that society, especially the American version, needs serious correction.  Further, the crimes are so severe that the needed correction demands punishment.  The liberal thought-process leads to these typical liberal reactions:

American society:  Corrupt, overindulgent, greedy capitalists, fanatical consumers.  We use too many of the world’s scarce resources.  We pollute.  The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.  Americans society must be corrected and severely punished.

Environmentalists:  They are our policemen and our enforcers.  They block all efforts to create wealth because that is the fuel feeding our corrupt society.

Global warming:  It matches the fundamental “belief” that ours is a society “gone bad” whose actions will destroy life on earth as we know it.  Our selfish, “over-the-top,” dependence on fossil fuels will result in future havoc.  Consistent with the liberal process, no proof of the impending disaster is needed.  It matches their fundamental belief.  The cost of the solution (our punishment) is irrelevant.  Whatever the cost, we deserve it.

Corporations:  Basically evil institutions that live off of the backs of poor people.  Politically, we liberals can’t afford to say so, but Marx and Lenin were right.

The economy:  Righting the wrongs of society must be our priority.  There is appalling injustice in every nook and cranny. The economy is something capitalists worry about.

Energy policy:  Our environmentalist wing is in total control here.  No drilling for oil or gas anywhere, anytime, ever.   No nuclear power.  No coal power.  Energy supply problems will be created which we can blame on the oil companies. Heap huge subsidies on alternative energy even though we know that will not solve the problem.

Gasoline prices : Oil companies pollute and gouge.  Blame them for the high gas prices.  Punish them with a windfall profits tax.  Nationalize their refineries. (What did I tell you about Marx and Lenin?)  Ignore the fact that liberal policies created the supply problem.

Bush:  Our goal is to denigrate Bush at every opportunity.  The real problems of our country will just have to take a back seat while we flail away.  This is “Job One” for liberal Democrats.  Real problems have to wait while we swing wildly at the Bush piñata.

That’s where Barack Obama is coming from when he promises “Change you can believe in.”  Michelle Obama was speaking from the heart when she said that she had never been proud of America until Barack became the Democrat candidate.  The above items form the basis for the “change” that Obama has in mind.  Of that, there is no doubt in my mind.

The America of the founding fathers, and even that of the greatest generation, is passé for the Obamas.  That definition of the traditional America that most of us love has “to go.”   It is “change you can believe in,” but I guarantee that you won’t like it.

              Americans, buckle your seatbelt!
