President Barack Obama continues to prove that the American leftists are immune to common sense whenever it conflicts with their "enlightened thinking." Less than two weeks after a terrorist attack failed as a result of nothing more than dumb luck, our "post-modern" president has embraced another pillar of utterly irresponsible liberal dogma: a unilateral reduction of our nuclear arsenal.
From hand guns for individuals to nuclear weapons for the military, liberalism embraces a constant: better to be defenseless than self-protected. Better to allow the lawless to run amok, be they criminals or criminal nations. Better to demonstrate the moral "superiority" of self-inflicted victimhood than the “cruelty” of self-preservation.
A nuclear-free world? Only in the vapor-locked minds of those who must ignore the reality of human nature and world history in order to square away their self-delusion. Only for those who live life in a state of permanent adolescence, where freedom is a “given” and self-absorption is as natural as breathing.
It’s both sad and funny how many people I know whose entire worldview turned on a dime--the moment someone shoved a gun in their face or threatened their families or friends with violence. How such people managed the reality of evil prior to such a rude awakening escapes me. Perhaps self-absorption allows one to believe that the really bad things in life only happen to other people, or, much like our comatose president, that they also have a special power to persuade criminals and madmen with the clever turn of a phrase.
The fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives is simple: liberals see the world the way they want it to be, and conservatives see it the way it is. For that we are pilloried by our liberal brethren. Conservatives are cruel, mean-spirited, or hard-hearted. We are insensitive. We can’t see the “good” in people.
Spare me. Plain and simple, modern-day liberalism is a luxury, bought and paid for with the blood and treasure of Americans who died so that Kumbaya-spewing, know-nothings can wax poetic about how “war is not the answer.” Maybe it isn’t when you’re safely ensconced in a college classroom getting your head filled with theoretical mush--mush that doesn’t amount to squat when some Islamo-fascist decides to impose his hard-wired reality on planeload of innocents.
This president and his fellow travelers need to look up the word “deterrence” in the dictionary. They need to understand that, while it might be better to be loved, nothing focuses the mind more clearly than fear. And when dealing with suicide-bombing crazies, even fear has its limitations.
Unilaterally reducing our nuclear arsenal will not make us one iota safer. It is nothing more than the essence of feel-good symbolism trumping real-world substance. It is one thing when the old saying, “a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged” applies to individuals.
It is quite another when the entire country is made muggable to satisfy a completely addled view of human nature.
