» "Change You Can Believe In," but Won't Like
By Jim Sparkman | Published 07/3/2008 | Politics | Rating:

The America of the founding fathers, and even that of the greatest generation, is passé for the Obamas.  That definition of the traditional America most of us love has “to go.”  It is “change you can believe in,” but I guarantee that you won’t like it.  Americans, buckle your seatbelt!

» The S.F. Chronicle and Advocacy Journalism
By Jim Sparkman | Published 06/16/2008 | Media | Rating:

A sad side effect of liberal advocacy is that it kills the healthy practice of continuous inquiry that was so typical of journalism of old.  Nowadays, the objective under the Chron’s advocacy policy is simple: promote the various liberal causes.  As a result, Chron writers do not seek counter arguments or the “other side of the story.” To them, it seems unnecessary since it falls outside the prevailing mold of political advocacy.

» Chevron and the S.F. Chronicle
By Jim Sparkman | Published 05/29/2008 | Media | Rating:
Once a newspaper adopts a policy of advocacy for liberal causes, as has the S.F. Chronicle, journalism takes a beating.  Chevron Corporation, with headquarters in the Bay Area, is also subjected to a beating as the Chronicle plays out the advocaacy game. David Baker, Chron writer, shows how this works with a series of hit pieces on Chevron.
» The S.F. Board of Supervisors May Be Losing Its Edge
By Jim Sparkman | Published 03/12/2008 | Politics | Rating:

You gotta give it to these guys.  If you are going to fiddle while Rome burns, the San Francisco Supes take the cake.  Or do they?  ChronWatch has noticed a few interesting ideas adopted by other cities.  The list indicates that our beloved Supes may be losing their edge in the search for irrelevant, “far-out” thinking.

» ChronWatch Joins S.F. Chronicle: Liberals Can't Govern
By Jim Sparkman | Published 02/28/2008 | Media | Rating:
ChronWatch was started over five years ago with the express purpose of critiquing the S. F. Chronicle.  It is fair to say that over those years ChronWatch has been uniformly critical.  Recently, we have seen cause to change the ChronWatch attitude from criticism of the Chron to one of praise.
» Did Spousal Influence Drive the S.F. Chronicle Over the Liberal Edge?
By Jim Sparkman | Published 02/27/2008 | Media | Rating:
For the past few years the San Francisco Chronicle was led by Phil Bronstein, super-chief editor, and his side kick, Narda Zucchino.  It is interesting to speculate how much the attitudes of their spouses affected their marital partner's approach to journalism.  How much influence did they have on the Chron’s headlong plunge into advocacy journalism?

» Chron Columnist Details the Evils of Chevron
By Jim Sparkman | Published 02/9/2008 | Media | Rating:
Using Marxist logic, Sierra Club environmentalism, and a Machiavellian view of executive behavior, Chip Johnson paints a sordid picture of Chevron's negative contribution to society.

Liberals are the most amazing phenom on earth.  They live incased in self-delusion.  They ignore reality, even when it stares them in the face. They thrive on "words" and never reach the "action" stage.
» The S.F. Chronicle's Oracle on the Homeless
By Jim Sparkman | Published 02/5/2008 | Politics | Rating:
Unknowingly, the Chron continues to publish material proving that "Liberals Just Can't Govern."  Columns by C.W. Nevius on the homeless situation in the City by the Bay highlight once again the futile liberal approach to problem solving.

For some time, ChronWatch has noted the tendency for the Chron to blur the lines between "news" and editorial opinon. Carolyn Lochhead’s piece on Monday, “State of the Union puts squeez...

What does the word “mainstream” mean to you? To most of us, it would describe the bulk of people most representative of American society. Right? Yet liberals use the term to describe any...

As much as the Editors who are in charge of the Chron hate to admit it, newspapers are a business. And, as much as they hate to acknowledge it, their business is in trouble.
