» Should Our Motto Feature "Apple Pie"?
By Thomas Segel | Published 08/22/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
Maybe we should once again bring up from the past that old saying: ''As American As Apple Pie.''  Few people turn up their noses at Apple Pie, so how could they fault such a statement if it were our patriotic motto?
» The "Change" You Can Believe
By Thomas Segel | Published 08/1/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
My tax accountant looked me in the eye and said: ”If the government doesn’t make one more change to the tax code and does nothing to change what will happen next year, your income tax will increase by $3,500.''

» The Nation Screams: "Secure Our Borders!"
By Thomas Segel | Published 06/28/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
For months all of America has been calling out to Washington: ”Protect us; secure our borders.”  The only answers the people have received from the Democrat administration and congressional majority is:  ”The only way we can do that is with amnesty and comprehensive immigration reform!”  In English that translates into:  “The only way we can do this is for you to help us secure a future Hispanic voting bloc.”
» A Fired General, Rules of Engagement, and Winning the War
By Thomas Segel | Published 06/24/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
Why do our men and women in uniform feel so contumacious toward their civilian leadership?  Much of the anxiety may well be due to irrational rules of engagement that are forced on combat troops by the key civilians who view everything from a political spectrum.
» The "Lemming Effect" in South Texas Politics
By Thomas Segel | Published 06/15/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
Deep South Texas has been the locale of the ''Lemming Effect'' for decades.  The heavily weighted Hispanic vote has regularly gone to the Democrat candidate, who has regularly won his or her office, and regularly led those same lemmings over the cliff.
» The National Debt That We Can't Comprehend
By Thomas Segel | Published 06/10/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
Like most Americans, I find it next to impossible to comprehend the size of our national debt.  Most sources claim that we will owe in excess of 13 trillion dollars within the next year.  According to pundits, in as little as two years, but in no more than twenty, our national debt will exceed our total Gross National Product.  In simple terms we will owe far more than we earn.
» Hey, Congress! Pass the Dreier Immigration Bill
By Thomas Segel | Published 05/26/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
So, Congress, instead of parroting the Obama administration and its lackey media cohorts, how about paying attention to the American people and do the right thing.  Pass this three-part, minimum-page Dreier Bill to solve our immigration nightmare.
» Border Security: Decades of Failure
By Thomas Segel | Published 05/22/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
As of now, the southern border of the United States remains a revolving door for illegal immigration and cross-border crime.  The federal government talks a good game of defending the border.  The reality is that Washington still only provides lip service to the problem.
» Part-time and Conservative Lawmakers Produce a Pro-business Texas
By Thomas Segel | Published 05/13/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
When we look at the economy of our nation, Texas is the first to be singled out as having its financial house in order.  Though looming unfunded federal mandates and a slowdown in business revenue are forecasts of difficult times ahead, that state is still weathering the current national crisis.  Tax revenues remain solid, the unemployment rate is manageable, and business in most of the state is advancing.
» A Matter of Heart
By Thomas Segel | Published 04/2/2010 | From Our Writers | Unrated
Though all of the attention was welcomed, it did not erase or even reduce the pain my body endured following that extensive surgery.  Even now, my chest aches to the touch, a constant reminder that my heart is still undergoing repair.
