» Where Did You Drop Out of High School?
By Terry M. Sater | Published 08/16/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
Before we take on the daunting challenges of healing the Earth, or slowing the rise of the oceans, or giving every American a college education, shouldn't we get more of them through high school?
» The Sweet Illusion of Socialism
By Terry M. Sater | Published 07/16/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
Norman Thomas, a U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate in the 1940s, said: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism.  But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day, America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
» It's Time for McCain and Obama to Go to Iraq
By Terry M. Sater | Published 06/13/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
Sen. John McCain recently invited Sen. Barack Obama to go to Iraq with him.  Obama has not accepted yet.  He should.  This is the time.  They should go to Iraq and meet with U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki without preconditions or predispositions.
» The Audacity of Hopelessness
By Terry M. Sater | Published 05/16/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
This November, we can vote for change.  We can turn away from free enterprise, individual liberty, and unlimited opportunity.  We can turn to the failed principles of Marxism and socialism.  We can put our faith in a larger, more powerful, monolithic, inefficient federal bureaucracy.  Yes, we can, but I hope we do not.

» Global Warming, Climate Change, and Cannibalism
By Terry M. Sater | Published 04/12/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
Last week, CNN founder Ted Turner told PBS's Charlie Rose that inaction on global warming "will be catastrophic" and that those who don't die in the next "30 or 40 years . . . will be cannibals."
» "Swiftboating" Insults the Sacrifices of U.S. Sailors in Viet Nam
By Terry M. Sater | Published 03/14/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
It is long past time for fair-minded Americans to scuttle the terms "swiftboating" and "swiftboated."
» "Wizard of Oz": A Parable for 2008?
By Terry M. Sater | Published 02/8/2008 | From Our Writers | Rating:
Some people have interpreted "The Wonderful World of Oz," written by L. Frank Baum in 1900, as a political allegory of the times.  It might hold up as a political allegory for our time, too.
» I'm Not Writing Any Checks!
By Terry M. Sater | Published 12/15/2007 | From Our Writers | Unrated

I'll speak out, and I'll vote, but I won't write checks until politicians put principle above power and ideals above money.  We don't want the best government that money can buy; we just want the BEST GOVERNMENT.

» Dangerous Liberal Exaggerations and Distortions
By Terry M. Sater | Published 10/14/2007 | From Our Writers | Rating:

There is an old saying about the manipulation of statistics: "Figures lie and liars figure."  Remaining silent about such things is dangerous.  Reasonable, informed Americans must speak up.

» Democrats Exploit the Poor for Political Gain
By Terry M. Sater | Published 09/19/2007 | From Our Writers | Rating:

The problem isn't that the so-called rich aren't paying enough; it's that our government is spending too much.  We seem to be drifting toward socialism, while the rest of the world--France most recently--is rejecting it.  We need to return to the spirit that made us the dream destination of millions around the world.  We should help those truly in need, and drop the self-serving rhetoric and phony portrait of "two Americas."
