Should S.F. secede from the Union?
By Jim Sparkman | Published  02/19/2006
When the Southern states felt that the policies and beliefs of the United States were so divergent from their own, they left the Union and formed the Confederate States of America. Many are asking if the City of San Francisco isn’t in the same position of strong disagreement with U.S. policies, and that they should bite the bullet and form their own country. The latest flap resulted when S.F. Supervisor Gerado Sandoval suggested on national television that the U.S. should disband its military. There were no ifs, and, or buts, just get rid of the military. There is some appeal to the thought of a separate country for California. First, they could establish it as a communist state and implement all the Marxist thoughts so dear to their hearts. There would be no more arguing over the pros and cons of various socialist issues. The new country could just go “whole hog.” Just think of the possibilities: Health care would be free for all citizens and their pets. Open borders for immigration with no controls on entering the country out of fear of profiling. Abortion on demand. Minimum wage of $50,000 so all can live a comfortable life. SUVs banned, hybrids only. All solar and wind power by 2008. Secondly, the new state could immediately recognize Cuba, Venezuela, and Syria, and welcome them as sister-states. They could sign non-aggression pacts with Iran and North Korea by noting that the new state has no military. And the depth of talent available for various national posts is staggering: Pelosi, Boxer, Lantos, Stark, Woolsey, Lee, Dellums, Newsom, Sheehan. Wow, what a cabinet that would make! I doubt if the new state would go so far as to include any of the members of the S.F. Board of Supervisors in the new government. You have to draw the line somewhere, and unless a state circus is formed I don’t see any use for this group of clowns. The S.F. Chronicle could be formally declared a state paper, finally free from any obligation to provide balance in their presentations. Personally, I dearly hope the California liberals do not leave and form their own communist state. As it is, they serve as the best advertisement conservatives have, and it is all free. Think of the millions of dollars this group saves the GOP. There is no need to advertise the merits of conservatism. All that is needed is to parade this hapless group of liberals before the public just before election time. No sane person would want this group of liberals with control over any of the arms of government. Not on your life! And, the left wonders why it keeps losing elections.
