The Democratic Party of my father's era is dead. It no longer exists. Some people would say that it has been sold and re-named.
A tiny remnant of that deceased party, Senator Joseph Lieberman, (I-Conn.) once the darling of the Democratic Party, was driven out by the efforts of the far-left movement known as "MoveOn.org." MoveOn is well-funded by billionaire socialist George Soros. When talking about the Democratic Party, Eli Pariser, a MoveOn employee, boldly stated: "Now it’s our party. We bought it. We own it. And we’re going to take it back." Observing the events of the last week, it seems that MoveOn has succeeded.
Last year, nervous Democrats were trying to please the far left by bashing the military, President Bush, and the war effort. Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) claimed our soldiers entered Iraqi homes in the dead of night just to frighten the women and children. Not to be outdone, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) compared our soldiers to Nazis and Soviet gulag guards. While enough outrage was expressed at Durbin’s remark to make him "explain" himself, there was not enough outrage to force him from office. Democrat after Democrat proclaims America--the same America that defeated the real Nazis--has lost the war in Iraq and the American people are listening. The big question for the Democratic Party is: How many voters really want America to lose the war in Iraq? The party drumbeat of defeat is starting to fall on irritated ears.
The day before the anniversary of the vicious attack on American soil by Islamic radicals, a man who has spent his entire adult life serving and risking his life for his country was attacked time and time again by Democrats who virtually called him a liar. Iraq commander General Petraeus, the man applauded by these same Democrats not so long ago as the perfect man for the job of stopping the unrest in Iraq, is now being called "General Betray-us" in a full-page ad in the New York Times.
The huge tab for the ad (still huge even after a large discount from the liberal Times) was paid for by MoveOn.org. Most of the Democratic presidential candidate are so terrified of George Soros and his gang that they said very little about this disgusting public display. Most likely they are silent because the Democratic Party received its marching orders from its new owners, George Soros and MoveOn.org to discredit and verbally slander General Petraeus in front of the viewing world. Anyone who does not dance to the beat given to them by MoveOn pays the price. George Soros controls millions in campaign dollars.
MoveOn has announced that it will back financially any Democratic candidate who wants to challenge an incumbent who has not voted to pull the troops out of Iraq. In other words, do as MoveOn says or be driven from office.
The mantra of the Democrats a year ago was that the military could not win. They said that the military was worn-out, washed-up, under-equipped, and just not up to the job. Congressman Murtha (D-Pa.) declared that our troops were only murdering innocent people in cold blood because they were under so much stress. Then, the surge began. It began slowly and at first the leftists were able to say defeat was the only end in sight for "Bush’s War." Then, the surge began to show results.
Even liberal journalists were forced to admit that things were getting better in Iraq. Report after report clearly stated that the Iraqi people were sick of al Qaeda and their barbaric followers. Our troops didn’t have to look for the enemy, the Iraqi people were showing us where they were and the Iraq military usually took the lead in rooting them out.
The leftists were aghast. They had already declared the war over and lost with no hope in sight. They had invested their political futures in a total and complete loss in Iraq. When the military side of the war began to show success, the Democrats looked foolish standing in front of television cameras declaring defeat when all the news was to the contrary. Even their loyal liberal media outlets were turning on them and were actually reporting that the surge was working. More than likely in a flurry of meetings, phone calls, e-mail, and faxes, and after consulting with their masters at MoveOn, a new plan was devised.
No matter how valiantly our glorious military performs, it will all be for nothing because the political side of the Iraq war is lost. The Iraqi government just isn’t up to the job of governing. So, the Democrats mantra now is: the political war in Iraq is lost, so what is the point? For the leftists in America, defeat in Iraq is mandatory.
How can a country have a stable government when terrorists are all-too-frequently blowing up the politicians and their families when they can? How can anyone govern when suicide bombers are blowing up and terrorizing the citizen’s children? It is difficult to govern with chaos all around. Those causing the chaos had to be stopped. Once that is achieved, those planning Iraq’s future can work towards that end in a civil manner.
While political discord is not necessarily a bad thing, when does the kind of talk Americans have been hearing from the Democrats stop being political, election cycle banter, and become treason?
Recently, Democratic presidential hopeful Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) made a trip to Syria to have a meeting with Syrian President Assad. In the presence of Assad and in front of Middle Eastern cameras, Kucinich praised the Syrian leader--a man known to allow Islamic terrorists to cross the Syrian border into Iraq to kill and maim anyone in their path, including Americans--by claiming Assad was "receptive to his (Kucinich) ideas of strength through peace." Assad is at the top of the list of suspects in the bombing death of anti-Syrian, former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Assad is not a "man of peace"; he is a man of murder and terrorism.
Kucinich is a terrible judge of character. Even worse is the fact that Kucinich looked straight into the Islamic cameras during a stop in Lebanon and stated: "I feel the United States is engaging in an illegal occupation ... I don't want to bless that occupation with my presence. I will not do it." As American men and women in uniform are fighting and dying in Iraq, this man calls a terrorist a "man of peace," and damns his own country during a time of war in a part of the world where the heart of enemy lives.
Congressman Kucinich’s words and actions come dangerously close to treason as it is stated in Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
Can any American even imagine an American congressman going to Italy during World War II and praising Mussolini by calling him a "man of peace?" Would Kucinich consider the Marines that fought and died on Iwo Jima "illegal occupiers?"
The problem that the Democratic Party has is its sheer and utter ignorance about the true nature of the enemy America faces. Radical Islam is like no other enemy this country has ever had to deal with. It is a faceless, countryless, uniformless, evil entity that avoids our soldiers and will head directly for young American children and other helpless civilians. It will kill with joy and die with joy believing that killing an American child is an instant ticket to paradise.
The war came to America six years ago. It moved to Afghanistan and Iraq and if we do not stand our ground there, the war will be fought from one side of America to the other. Islamics don’t believe in civilians. Everyone, young and old, who is not a radical Muslim, is the enemy.
Ignorance is no excuse for calling our troops Nazis and rapists, or murderers and thugs. American is at war, whether the Democrats realize it or not. When the man who took responsibility for the attack on 9/11 becomes a spokesman for their party, Democrats should realize that something is dreadfully wrong. Yet, the Democratic candidates push forward with condemning the troops, the president, the war, and the generals, and praising the enemy while on foreign soil.
The word "treason" should not used lightly, but it should not be ignored either. Many Democrats have come far too close the constitutional description of treason. The fact that some of these people are running for president is unthinkable.
The next presidential election may well mean the difference between facing the enemy elsewhere or on American soil. Islamics are far too unpredictable in their actions, but one thing we do know: they are very patient. They may be waiting to see if the American people are weak and stupid. This enemy always prefers the weak and stupid. That's a perfect description of today's Democratic Party, or should we just call it the "bought and paid for" MoveOn Party.
